Hi Doug Abney here, today I wanted to write about the importance of social chat (chatting in traffic exchanges).  The internet is rapidly changing the way we market ourselves, and social chat is rapidly becoming one of, if not the, most important tools we as internet marketers can use to promote and brand ourselves and our businesses.

If you were to have asked me six months ago about social chat, I would have probably said "What?".  While I have been using traffic exchanges for years, to me social chat was nothing more than that annoying little box on the right side of the screen that unknown people said things in that often made no sense.  So I chose to ignore or close it and concentrate on my surfing.

And then one day a funny thing happened.  As I was surfing a new traffic exchange I had just joined, I noticed my name pop up in the chat column.  I was being welcomed to the exchange by one of the owners.  Well, I don't know why but I chose to answer and thank him and we got to talking.  His name was Marcus Wahl.  As we talked I thought, hmm. this is not so bad, in fact, it is kind of nice.  Little did I know at the time that this first conversation with Marcus would turn into me using the chat boxes all over the internet!  Not only is it fun to chat with other people and get to know them, but I realized that most people won't even consider doing business with you if they have never met you before.  Since beginning to talk on the chat boards, I have meant so many wonderful people and made so many great business contacts- and sales!  I have even joined a few programs I never would have had I not met the person promoting them.  In fact, the reason I joined this site is because I made a very good friend and associate through chat who recommended I join here,  his name is William Brower- you may already know him, he is a great guy and a terrific marketer!

Anyway, I owe Marcus Wahl from Legacy Hits a debt of gratitude for getting this shy and timid person to come out of his shell and enter the world of chat!  And a big thanks to William Brower, my new business associate- (more to come on that later) for getting me to finally join TWE!  So next time you are surfing, be sure to say hi in chat!

Hey Doug!  Nice post!   Glad to see you come out of your shell :)  There is a huge number of people who don't really understand that being social plays a huge roll to ones business.  This is called Attraction Marketing and I have written a few post about on my blog  http://derekpatterson.ws that you might be interested in reading.   Would love to here more about your success, and keep up the good work.

Enjoyed the post Doug! Social chat can be a wonderful way to connect with people right where they are instead of just fishing for prospects with email marketing!

Great post indeed Doug.

I think social chat is returning to be a significant user experience changer.

It stated up with the support chat and now it is expanding to social chats.

i tried to find several options for social chats and i see very few, mainly because i do not want video chats but text chat. I also wanted to be able to talk from my smartphone which reduces the options even more.

The one i have found was RumbleTalk, Chatango, CSbox.

Any other recommendations?

Hi Doug,

Welcome, glad William got you here.

I found the chat box on Facebook a huge timewaster so I have been put off using all chat boxes except Skype (with a very limited list of contacts). But thanks to your post I will certainly explore the possibilities and I will also check out Legacy hits.

Hey Doug... nice blog.

You should use the Legacy reference as an

opportunity to post a referral link to Legacy.

I think that Marcus has a good TE over there also.
